A Brief History Of Clarks Shoes

July 2nd, 2008

A family business for over 179 years, Clarks Shoes has led the way in shoe manufacturing, becoming one of the leading brands of shoes in the world. The success of Clarks Shoes can be attributed to the family behind the company. They have been, and are still to this day, committed to producing a high quality product for every man, woman and child in the world. Their dedication and hard work, coupled with their awareness of market trends and future technologies, has ensured the success and longevity of the Clarks Shoe Company. Getting its starts from humble beginnings, Clarks Shoes quickly and effectively moved forward, giving the company a place in the shoe industry for almost 200 years, surpassing any other.

In 1825 England, a man named Cyrus Clark decided to tan sheepskin rugs, and inadvertently set the wheels in motion for what is known as the world’s #1 shoe brand, Clark Shoes. In 1830, Cyrus’s brother James was to credit for creating the first sheepskin slippers using Cyrus’s tanned sheepskin. With the purchase of the newly invented Singer Sewing machine in 1856, the brothers were able to ease the assembly of their sheepskin slippers for their consumers, and production began to thrive.

Soon after, William Clark introduced a line of foot friendly shoes named the Hygienic Line that followed the natural shape of a foot. This creation would soon prove to be a significant one, as the foot friendly shoe became what was expected of any shoe that Clarks produces. In the early 20th century, John, Roger, and Alice Clark respond to changing fashions by paying close attention to the development of women’s shoes. Little did they know how large a market this would eventually become.

Following the end of Second World War, the 1940’s became a time for Clarks Shoes to be seen around the world. This led Nathan Clark to create the Desert Boot in the early 1950’s, influenced by the marketplace in Cairo. These boots popularity came from their simple comfort, and attitude. The Desert Boot was followed closely by Lance Clark’s creation named the Wallabee. The moccasin style shoe had a large fan base, and later came to be known as a Clark Classic.

The 1960’s proved to be a noteworthy time for Clarks Shoes. Their foot friendly, form fitting shoe set the standard for many shoe designs, including the children’s shoe market. The Clarks Shoe Company enjoyed much success in this market. While always keeping an eye on the future, Clarks continued to conduct technological research that led to the discovery of polyurethane as a soling material. It is lightweight, and indestructible. P.U. technology, as it was called, continues to be used today in many of the Clarks Shoes, including Active Air, and Springer’s. This new technology, coupled with the addition of air cushioning in the soles, secured the Clarks shoe brand as a one of a kind, comfortable shoe.

Today, the Clarks Shoe brand remains a leader in the shoe industry. They are the #1 shoe retailer in the U.K., as well as the leading children’s shoe brand in the U.K. Due to their global expansion; Clarks Shoes is the world’s #1 shoe brand. Clarks Shoes currently produces about 41 million pairs of shoes per year. Worldwide the company employs over 12,000 men and women, who tirelessly work to produce the high quality, comfortable shoes that Clarks has been known to provide.

In the end, it remains a fact that Clarks Shoes started with a man, and an idea, and continues to succeed the same way. In 2003, Lance Clark founded Soul of Africa. The people of South Africa are taught shoemaking skills, and the final products are sold in the U.K., while 100% of all the profits go to the people of South Africa to improve their way of life. Specifically, the money is used to buy furniture, and living necessities for the orphan children of South Africa that have had their families ravished by AIDS. The women that make the shoes have learned a valuable skill, and have steady work which benefits their families, which in turn nourishes the community. With about $250,000 already earned, the expansion to the U.S. promises to increase support and profit.

Clarks shoes continues to produce, innovative, comfortable shoes, including their well known Active Air, Waterproof for men, Flex 24, and Springer’s for women. Clarks Shoes also has a line of shoes that have features designed for customers with specific foot needs. Clarks has also extended its product base to handbags. Clarks Shoes also provides advice for adult and child foot health, as well as shoe care. The company strives to provide all the education you need to purchase the best kind of Clarks Shoes for you, in order to promote a healthy, happy life.

10 Lesser Known Dinosaur Species

July 2nd, 2008

As most people know, there were many different dinosaur species. Some such as Apatosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex, are extremely well-known and are recognized even by people who do not have much interest in dinosaurs. There are also many lesser known types of dinosaur that are also interesting. In this article we will review some of these:

1. Baryonyx was a carnivore that lived during early Cretaceous period, about 125 million years ago. For a long time, it was the only dinosaur known to have eaten fish (fossilized fish remains have been found in its stomach). Baryonyx has many unusual features, including a very narrow skull filled with many small pointed teeth (far more teeth than its theropod relatives), a long flexible neck, and a huge hooked claw that was attached to its front or rear feet (it is not known which).

2. Camptosaurus was a herbivore (plant-eater) with long hind legs with 3 hoofed toes, and much shorter arms. Camptosaurus was able to work on two or four legs, but probably mostly walked on four legs. When it did walk on four legs, Camptosaurus would have arched its back, and its name, which was chosen by Othniel C. Marsh means “bent lizard”.

3. Ceratosaurus was a large carnivore (meat-eater) which can be recognized by the short horn on its snout, and its four-fingered hands (a primitive configuration).

4. Heterodontosaurus was a small, 3 feet (1 metre) long, herbivore (plant-eater) that lived over 200 million years ago. Heterodontosaurus is noteable for having three kinds of teeth (most dinosaurs and reptiles only have one), and for having five-fingered hands with two opposable “thumbs”.

5. Kentrosaurus was a slow-moving herbivore (plant-eater). Its back was covered by a double row of bony triangular plates, while its tail was covered with pairs of long sharp spikes.

6. Massospondylus was a herbivore (plant-eater) with a tiny head on the end of long flexible neck. Its hands had five fingers, and could be used for both walking and grasping, and its “thumbs” were each equipped with a large claw.

7. Ouranosaurus was a large plant-eating dinosaur that had a massive fin on its back. The fin was probably used for temperature control: the animal could face it towards or away from the sun, depending on whether it needed to heat up or cool down.

8. Pachycephalosaurus was a large plant-eating dinosaur that was one of the last dinosaurs to die out. It is noteable for having a large bony dome on its head, which was probably using in butting contests with other animals.

9. Styracosaurus is a relative of the more familiar Triceratops. Styracosaurus had a single horn on its snout, and spikes around the bony frill which protected its neck.

10. Troodon was a carnivore (meat-eater) that was one of the last dinosaurs to go extinct. It was one of the cleverest dinosaurs to have ever lived, and was probably about as smart as a modern bird.

No Time For Training? Here’s Your Answer!

July 2nd, 2008

“I know I need to know how to create spreadsheets and update my database, but I just can’t find the time!” Does this sound like you? So many professionals need to learn more about computer applications in order to function more effectively in their jobs. Finding a good time to get the training you need to do your job can be challenging for many business owners and professionals.

If you find yourself registering to attend computer classes, but then having to cancel because something always seems to come up at the last minute, you are not alone. Many business people have a hard time planning ahead of time to attend training sessions that are scheduled for specific times. However, finding training classes at the last minute is nearly impossible, because good classes fill up quickly. It can be very frustrating to know that you need to improve your skills, but to be unable to find time to do so.

That’s where online training comes in. E-learning classes are available in every topic imaginable, from basic computer skills through how to design and market your company’s website. By selecting an online training option, your computer can become your classroom. Instead of leaving work or home to go to class, literally your class can be delivered right to your desktop, any time that you want it. Whether you have time to work on developing your skills first think in the morning, last thing at night, or even in the airport between flights, you can fit e-learning into your schedule.

According to Randall Olson, Mobile Technical Institute’s Course Advisor, “The main reason that MTI implemented its comprehensive online training program is to make high quality training accessible to clients who aren’t able to attend pre-scheduled classes. We offer instructor-led classes that are very well attended. However, we frequently received training requests from people who just cannot work out their schedules to attend the classes they need. I knew we needed to create a training option that would work for them, so we implemented an online curriculum.”

The great thing about advanced e-learning technology is that people who want to learn new skills can do so in their own time and at their own pace. Online classes are the ideal solution for individuals who need to find a convenient, affordable, and easily accessible way to improve their skills. The beauty of the e-learning environment is that you can choose exactly what you need to learn, and complete your training at times convenient to you, in the locations of your choice.

People from all backgrounds and all skill levels can benefit from online learning. According to Olson, “our online training clients range from people who are learning to use their first computer all the way through advanced computer professionals who would otherwise have to travel across the country to find live classes that meet their specialized, high-end training needs.”

Whether your goal is to master the computer applications skills that will help you run your business more effectively, to earn your real estate license, or to complete continuing education licensing requirements for your profession, there is an excellent online training program that will meet your needs.

Sustainability Assignment

July 2nd, 2008

Countries all over the world, regardless of their economic development, are striving to achieve and maintain successful operation of the economic, socio-cultural and political stability and integrity within its boundaries. This goal is undoubtedly the mail prospect of countries’ officials and its people in most developed and prosperous countries. An entirely different picture can be observed when looking at the African continent or at almost any South American country. Why is that so? This report will attempt to discover the answers to this question.

Aims

This paper will consider one developing country in the context of its history, political situation, social background and ethnical issues that it is currently facing. Analyzing the facts and historical data, certain conclusions as to why Nigeria’s economy is in such a horrible state is one of the major goals of this reports. Another important aim is to attempt the presentation of possible solutions for the situation that is currently taking place in Nigeria’s Delta region.

Executive Summary

Nigeria is one of the largest oil producers in the world and the first biggest one on the African continent. Being a country with rich natural resources it has not yet enjoyed even a decade of political or economic stability due to the particularities of its government’s rule. Corrupted politicians and non-transparent laws have made oil production process into a constant struggle of nationals with foreign companies. The debates over who is right and whose profits should oil production benefit are not helping the county’s economy. At the same time Nigeria is suffering from continuous ethnic rivalries and undergoing dangerous environmental changes. This paper is going to view these issues in more details.

Results

Taking into consideration current situation in Nigeria and particularly in the Niger Delta, certain laws and regulations must be implemented for the preservation and proper maintenance of its natural resources. Clearly oil is country’s best natural resource that could be traded for the wealth of its people and stable economic growth. On the other hand it can only happen in a country with established political structure, ethnical identity, developed infrastructure and lawful approaches to business decisions. It is a known fact that Nigerian government usually “entrusts the oil companies almost entirely to provide the information on such matters as land claims and its valuation, environmental impact assessments, terms of compensation for property and labor usage, damage claims, etc.” (Journal of International Affairs, 1999,pp. 281). This data proves that all of the vitally important processes associated with oil production are in the hands of the company and a few politicians who are interested in it for personal financial reasons. At the same time the county’s poorest find themselves receiving whatever compensation they are offered without a right to protest. Also such companies are often giving away compensations without making sure of its legal and correct distribution, thus a big portion of the funds end up in the wrong hands never reaching those who need it the most. It is worthy to state that there are autonomous law bodies that are trying to monitor process described above however previous years’ practice proves that security force harassments and office raids have badly impacted their initiatives.

Findings

In countries like Nigeria- with a clearly distinctive problem of human rights violation and political corruption, corporations come into play and proclaim their aims as noble and in the long run able to change the current situation. In reality though instead of providing needed help for environmental preservation and sustained oil usage and production, companies adapt to the local rules and do little to change the situation. This happens because oil moguls do not want to risk their multi-billion profits for the sake of human rights and call these issues “highly political” underlying their inability to be involved in such matters. At the same time oil producers must be responsible for such problems as human rights, especially if working together with the domestic governments. Instability in the community, such as protests of its certain layers causes both players: governments and oil companies lose profits. Therefore both have to cooperate producing good for the community and country in general. However the real situation in many countries and particularly in Nigeria is drastically different. The level of secrecy that surrounds all agreements of Nigerian government with foreign oil companies is absolutely absurd. There is only one publicized document that was issued by Shell regarding the “internal guidelines on security and international human rights standards” (Journal of International Affairs, 1999,pp. 281). At the same time none of the companies operating in Nigeria publish reports that include claims of environmental damage, compensation declarations, protest actions or any military actions occurring in the vicinity of their facilities. It seems that these companies are completely unaware of the political situation in the country and accusations of the communities they operate their business in. Clearly such position is a mere convenient shield of producers from unnecessary trouble.

Conclusions

Sustainability of Nigeria as a developing country will greatly depend on what decisions its government and its entire nation will make concerning their main wealth-oil. Right now the only smart solution for the central government seems to be the assignment of a fixed proportion of oil revenues to the development across the entire onshore production region (Ford, 2003). It appears to be logical that the more oil is extracted from their land- the more local people will benefit from it and thus will not sabotage work of oil installations. It is vital for the inhabitants of these regions to make their desires and requests to the companies, as well as the governments, well known in order to receive what they can based on their rights. Only in this case of community’s joint forces the county will be on the way to the economic stability and more or less balanced social structure.

It is important to note that the mere absence of the fully outlined legal regime is not essentially an obstacle to the successful development of country’s natural resources. There are instances where oil industry has developed greatly in places where there were no laws and written regulations on ownership of resources and their development. On the other hand the presence of inconsistent claims of ownership can be a big problem, especially in countries like Nigeria where it can easily lead to military confrontations. One of the most successful business practices in terms of cooperation between two countries is joint development arrangements. Most of such arrangements fall under one of the three major categories: 1) each state has the authority to license its own nationals to operate within the join zone, with condition for compulsory joint ventures between these licensees; 2)a joint authority with licensing and regulatory powers manages development of the resources on behalf of both states; 3) one of the states controls development of the resources on behalf of both with the other state’s participation limited only to revenue sharing and monitoring (Journal of International Affairs, 2005, pp. 81)

Under the conditions provided above Nigeria and other developing countries with the similar situation has a chance to become a real economic power. Finding a balance between government’s regulations, human rights, ethnic differences and oil industry’s interests along with clear specifications as to resources’ ownerships will lead to regeneration of the economic strength and stability in the country.

Speed Reading Methods That Will Help Improve Your Speed and Comprehension

July 2nd, 2008

Learning Speed Reading Methods Without A Seminar

Many courses claim to teach people how to speed read. However, instead of spending the money, try using a few helpful tips to improve your own pace. With some practice, anyone can improve their reading speed without losing comprehension. There are plenty of speed reading methods and information available.

Erase Old Ideas

You may have heard from a parent or grade school teacher that it is important to read each word carefully. If these ideas are ingrained in you, it will be more difficult to learn any speed reading methods. While it is important to not lose your reading comprehension to speed, it is not necessary to focus on every syllable on the page. Taking time to be thorough will reduce your overall reading speed.

Gathering The Main Ideas Of A Passage

Depending on what you are reading, there may not even be a need to read every paragraph in its entirety. Many speed reading methods focus on gathering the main ideas of a passage instead of every detail. This may not be ideal in every situation, but in the end comprehension is the most important factor in any speed reading methods.

Understanding Themes

Reading the book jacket and table of contents is a great way to familiarize yourself with the themes of a book. By knowing what to expect and what kind of text you are about to read, you can improve your speed. Some speed reading methods suggest that if you know that the next chapter of a textbook will cover a subject in detail, you can skim any information in the present chapter. However, if a topic will only be covered in one particular section, you will want to pay more attention and absorb the details.

Never Re-Read The Information

When learning any speed reading methods, it is important to never have to re-read information. This will naturally slow you down. If you are missing things and having to go back, it defeats the purpose of learning speed reading methods. It is essential to absorb all the important concepts of the book the first time around and to be able to identify which details you will need in the future and which are fine to skim.

For example, if you are reading something to find new techniques you may not need to know specifics about the philosophy and background of the subject. Know what you want to focus on before you sit down, and your speed reading methods will be more effective.

President Kennedy Was A fast Speed Reader

While the average person reads at a pace of 250 words per minute, with the right speed reading techniques you may be able to up your pace to ore than 600 words per minute. This may sound difficult but it is an achievable goal. It is said that President Kennedy could read at a pace of 1200 words per minute. If you put your mind to it, you too can read more quickly and efficiently.

A Good Guided Reading Philosophy is an Effective Way to Improve Your Research Skills

July 2nd, 2008

When teachers are helping students become independent and skilled readers, many of the turn to the guided reading philosophy. By using a guided reading program, students progressively learn and develop different skills related to phonics, grammar, and reading comprehension. While the primary grades are typically targeted with a guided reading philosophy, it can also be an effective technique to help older students who need improvement. It can encourage skills such as research and information gathering in these older students. When the guided reading philosophy is used to its best advantage, students learn all the necessary skills to read successfully and to enjoy the activity for the rest of their lives.

What Is The Guided Reading Philosophy?

When putting a guided reading program together, students are generally put in smaller groups of four to six children. This team will all read the same book and complete any assignments related to it. It is important for the guided reading philosophy that the book chosen is appropriate for the level of all the students in the group, which is why children may often be separated into groups with similar learning needs. With young readers, teachers may often employ pictures and picture books to aid with comprehension. Attaching the word to an image of the item can help develop comprehension.

Guided Reading Technique

A second common technique is to look for common letter combinations in a word, which helps the child sound it out. For instance the letters “-at” and “-it” are typical pairings in children’s books. It may be helpful for the child to read the entire sentence out loud, and attempt to decipher the word by its context. In the guided reading philosophy, multiple techniques are encouraged to help children with all learning styles.

Children Using A Guided Reading Philosophy

Teachers may also discuss ideas such as predicting what a book is about, based on things like the title or cover illustrations. Children in a group using the guided reading philosophy may be asked to evaluate the story, and explain what parts they liked and did not like. There are many other strategies that fit into this type of program. For instance, children may discuss solutions to problems that arise in the story or be asked to predict what they think is going to happen next.

Diverse Reading Strategies

While this group of strategies may seem diverse, they all fall within a guided reading philosophy and are designed to help students improve their reading comprehension. By learning these skills at an early age, they can enjoy independent reading. Parents should learn what strategies work best with their children and use them when they are reading together at home.

Achieving Academic Success

For a child to achieve academic success, they need to have good reading skills. The guided reading philosophy is an effective way to help your child improve their skills one step at a time. The better your child learns to read, the more success they will enjoy in their later education.

A Hard Look at How Advanced Subjects Like Chemistry Are Viewed

July 2nd, 2008

It’s time to discuss chemistry, algebra, mythology, and many other chosen standard curriculum and how they affect our lives (or don’t). When we look at today’s declining graduation rate, we love our typical scapegoats: lack of parental interaction, the internet, the economy, and so on. While the fact that these have an effect is most certainly true, perhaps we should look a little deeper.

Let’s face it, people: we are in the “New Millennium.” It’s the 21st Century. That doesn’t mean flying cars or that life needs to be like The Jetsons. It means we are in a new era, “the zeroes.” The zeroes have brought about a lot of changes, both positive and negative. It depends where you look. The internet itself has had both a good and bad impact on our society as a whole, for one example. To say it hasn’t changed everything, in some way or another, would be simply untrue.

So that’s it, this is a new time and time for a new approach. We know this. Everyone is more open-minded than they used to be, and yet a lot of major life issues are not in good shape. Why is that?

The reason we are struggling is because we are at a crossroads in time. Perhaps it’s partly placebo, but our awareness that change is possible and within our reach has sharpened. This new heightened sense of focus and optimism can help us make the changes we need in our education system.

There is no doubt that it’s time to address our system. Public schools simply are not efficient. The media often repeats the mantra, “We need to pay our teachers more.” Ha—as if! No, seriously, that is true sometimes, but no, that is not worth constantly repeating, if it means we are wasting time that should be spent looking at the real root of the “school problem.”

It’s chemistry, biology, algebra, calculus, greek mythology, and so on. What is it about this academia that is not settling right, when you look at those words? Here’s a hint: look at those and consider how many of those subjects have directly helped you in your every day life? If you said more than zero or one, you are either lying or you have a very unique career. Otherwise, there is little relevance in those subjects.

Stop the press! Don’t get all bent out of shape just yet! Give this a moment; there’s an explanation and it is genuinely rational! The point of school is not to just provide a curriculum that teaches people to live their lives; on the contrary. (After all, it is assumed that they will learn common sense at home, best case scenario.) The point of formal education is to help children learn to, well, learn.

So yes, this is not news. We know why we have a fundamental school system, and why that is core to a civilized and rapidly advancing society. But there is an element, a crucial aspect here, that is being continuously overlooked: again, the relevance of the subjects taught in school.

There needs to be a wider variety of subjects. We need to make changes to the education curriculum, which acknowledge a few things that are very true, but again, often ignored. First of all, our children are not all learning common sense at home. We need to teach kids to change their own oil, do their taxes, balance a checkbook, get a mortgage, drive cars (teach them the rules of the road years before driver education begins), and other daily life things.

And why are we filling their heads with needless garbage like Greek Mythology? What relevance does that have? Sure, spend a week on it… but why do many public schools spend an entire semester on that? This is so backwards. We will spend a semester on Greek Mythology, a year on chemistry, four to six years on advanced math that will never be used by the vast majority of all graduates, and yet… We do not teach kids how to avoid identity theft and stay safe online. What is wrong with us???

Why are we assuming that the parents not only know everything our children need, but that they have time and are willing to teach it? The education system clearly needs an overhaul. Curriculum changes would be a start. Maybe school should be a balance of work and fun, too, if we are going to ship our kids off to there for 6 hours a day. Let’s let them be kids for a bit, too.

Sure, our growing children need to learn discipline and learn to work, but they will have the rest of their lives to do that. Balance and better curriculum would make kids want to stay in school! That would resolve the decline in the graduation rate. Educators and school boards: I dare you to try these changes and see the results!

Create Your Own Guided Reading Curriculum to Improve Your Childs Reading Skills

July 2nd, 2008

To help your child improve his or her reading skills, teachers use what is known as reading levels to help create guided reading curriculum’s. Each reading level has a set of books that are specifically geared towards improving different reading skills and comprehension, depending in part on the child’s age. If you would like to use summer vacation to help your child get a head start, his or her teacher should be able to provide you with the list ahead of time. This can help you create your own guided reading curriculum.

The guided reading curriculum become slightly more advanced with each passing school year. The hope is that when the child graduates from the sixth grade, they will have acquired a large set of reading comprehension skills. These skills will help them succeed in middle school, high school, and beyond. Here are a few examples of what a good guided reading curriculum should strive to teach.

Kindergarten

As the child begins learning to read and enters school for the first time, they begin with a guided reading curriculum meant to impart the basics of reading. The books use sentences that may be only two or three words, and each of these words tends to be four or fewer letters. Such examples as “See Spot Run” may be memories from your childhood, and are still popular favorites in a kindergarten guided reading curriculum.

The goal of these books is to teach children the sounds that the different letters make, and to help them understand how these sounds change as the letters are strung together. Often they employ rhyming words to help reinforce the patterns. A young child’s guided reading curriculum has the primary goal of providing the building blocks of language.

First Grade

As first graders begin to progress, the guided reading curriculum will begin to introduce slightly more advanced skills. It often begins with learning the difference between nouns and verbs, and builds upon the skills learned in kindergarten. These stories may also be more advanced, containing longer sentences and plots where the characters interact more frequently.

Second Grade

The more advanced second grade guided reading curriculum finds children more able to answer questions about the stories they have read. Their reading comprehension has advanced, as well as their retention of the material. Many children this age even begin to read short chapter books.

While a guided reading curriculum is generally created for a specific age group, it is important to assess where a particular student is and find appropriate material for their level. Students with a lower comprehension should be approached with material to help meet their needs, without making them feel inadequate. This is also important for students with learning disabilities. It may be helpful to use a guided reading curriculum that has advanced stories told in a simple, building block format in cases like these.

If you understand your child’s reading level and guided reading curriculum, you can help them meet their educational goals and spend quality time with them.

A Reading Comprehension Lesson Plan Will Help Speed Up Your Understanding of the Curriculum

July 2nd, 2008

There are many reading comprehension lesson plans available to download from the Internet. These templates provide all manner of plans and can be duplicated and integrated into a classroom curriculum. When looking for a reading comprehension lesson plan, take into account software titles, student assignments, lesson goals, the technology needed, assessment, and the context of what is being taught. Many of these reading comprehension lesson plans can be adapted to suit the needs of a specific environment, with just a little additional effort.

Content Type

It is important to consider the type of knowledge that a particular reading comprehension lesson plan is striving to impart. Concepts such as fluency, phonics, and listening are just a few aspects of comprehension. These sub-headings can be important parts of your lesson plan. The first column on your plan’s grid should focus on these topics that you want the lesson plan to help with. Having the lesson plan laid out in a grid makes it convenient to modify and use as a future template.

Reading Comprehension Software

The second important characteristic of a reading comprehension lesson plan involved the standards that the lessons will be using or striving towards. For instance, things like English/L.A.6, 5, 4 could be brought up in this category. After that, it is important for the different software programs that will be necessary to be listed. Some programs may use Kid Pix, Access, or Excel. There are more titles available each day that can be blended well with a student’s classwork. Having the proper software can help children with a variety of learning styles follow the reading comprehension lesson plan in a way that best suits them.

Reading Comprehension Lesson Plan Template

The reading comprehension lesson plan template should also state what assessments should be developed and reviewed prior to the beginning of the project. It is also important to note if students will be able to look over the software to get acquainted with it before they begin their lessons. It can be helpful for students to develop a level of comfort with any new program before they are expected to perform in an assessment situation.

Preparation Before The Lesson

The last point that a reading comprehension lesson plan should state clearly is in what manner the students need to prepare before their lessons. Will there be learning based on projects? What types of groups will be used? It is also important to identify any technological problems that may need to be addressed with students. A set of goals that the students need to achieve should be clearly spelled out in the lesson plan.

Best template For Your Students

Once teachers have a basic template for a reading comprehension lesson plan, they can infinitely adjust it to meet the needs of their students and classroom environment. Spend time browsing the available material online to find the best template for your students.Less work will need to be done adjusting the reading comprehension lesson plan if the most appropriate one is chosen.

Reading Fluency Activities Are Critical Skills For Young Children to Learn

July 2nd, 2008

One of the most critical learning skills that children will learn in their early education is learning how to read. An expert once noted that in the early education years, children are taught to learn to read, but in later years children will read to learn. Consider how much time was spent during school and through homework time reading workbooks, textbooks and various types of information that the teacher provided or wrote on the chalkboard for the class. Kids who do not develop their reading skills with adequate reading fluency activities, will most likely find themselves at a significant disadvantage in other subjects such as social studies, math and science. Because reading is a core academic skill, it is very essential that educators and parents develop reading fluency activities and strategies that work with their kids.

Before Reading Fluency Activities

Reading fluency activities that are successful begin to work before a student ever opens a single book. By studying the title of a book, a student readers can begin to make thoughtful predictions about the subject and story line of the book. Students might start to consider what an author’s purpose was in creating and writing the story. By scanning the pages of the story, students can look for various clues about what the plot might be about as well as getting a better idea of how the story is written. These early reading fluency activities can help to prepare a reader for what is about to happen in the story, and may also help a reader to think about what the plot of the story will involve before even a single word has been read.

During Reading Fluency Activities

The next phase of reading fluency activities that are successful occurs when the story or book is actually read. During this process, students will have learn how to improve their ability to recognize unfamiliar words, understand new vocabulary and then proceed with actually reading through the text. Students will sometimes be asked the best way to resolve a conflict that is occurring in the story, or perhaps be asked to predict the possible outcomes of a particular situation. There might be time for rereading certain parts of the text which might be necessary for better story clarification and comprehension of the text.

After Reading Fluency Activities

One activity that many readers don’t truly realize the true benefits of, is reading fluency activities after the story has been read. This activity allows students to actually digest what have been read. This activity might include actually quizzing students on the comprehension details or it could simply be discussing how the story made them feel or maybe why they didn’t like a character.

By using sound reading fluency activities and finding which one works best for an individual student, teachers and parents can help their students to become the best readers possible. And in the end, readers will make for better overall students.
